Whatever happened to ROBOCON 2000?
Originally planned in 1999, ROBOCON 2000 was to kick off the celebration of the 15th anniversary of Robotech at the DoubleTree Hotel in Orange, CA. Alas, with the end of many licenses such as the novelizations, RPGs and comics, the future of franchise had at one point hinged on the ill-fated ROBOTECH 3000 project. ROBOCON went back on the backburner as Harmony Gold prepared a Robotech panel with Carl Macek to present Robotech 3000 at the 2000 San Diego Comic Convention. The feedback from the fans attending the panel was crystal clear: Robotech was inseparable from its anime roots and future projects needed to recapture that. The Robotech franchise was relaunched soon afterwards through Robotech.com with successful new licenses ranging from DVDs to comics to videogames.
What's in store for ROBOCON now?
Now, with the coming of the 20th anniversary of Robotech in 2005, fans are preparing to celebrate once again with ROBOCON 20 as the Robotech saga continues with the arrival of The Shadow Chronicles!
